The Brothers McLeod – aka writer Myles and animator Greg -- reveal how you can make viewers laugh harder

When executing a visual gag, clarity is king – the image must be clear and so must the action. So exaggerate – it makes whatever is happening clearer to the audience, and it’s amazing how far you can push an action. And don’t have two jokes happening on top of one another or you’ll confuse things or dissipate the payoff of the main gag.

Add a fresh twist

If you think of something funny, ask yourself, ‘Have I seen this before?’ If you have, can you give it a new twist or add something surprising? In Fuggy Fuggy we had a monster that kicked the ninja off screen – and the ‘foot’ was actually the monster’s tongue.

The Brothers McLeod are funny.
