Learn how ILM created Star Wars' visual effects

Escape Studios’ VFX Festival is back for its fourth annual celebration of the best of special effects. Keep the 23-25 February free for the chance to meet industry stars.

Escape Studios have snagged London’s O2 to host their exciting array of film screenings, panel discussions and keynote lectures from giants across the British film industry.

The closing day of the festival is dedicated to professionals, and promises talks from leading studios – including headliners ILM – as well as career and recruitment lectures. For now, you can watch the Star Wars VFX breakdowns online.

Kicking off the festivities is a day aimed at VFX, games and animation newcomers – but, with presentations from The Mill and Hamilton & Kidd, that is unlikely to put off seasoned industry professionals.

Day two boasts a VFX feature on The Martian from MPC, an offering from Aardman, as well as the game art leaders Climax Studios and the studio behind Spectre’s UI graphics, Rushes

This year, the festival theme is how industry titans are reacting to the spread of new technology, such as VR and AR, and is hosted in partnership with Pearson College.
