Flash Catalyst is a standalone tool that makes it easy for non-coding designers to create basic interactivity for their Flash-based projects before handing projects to programmers for integration work – or to complete simple projects without a programmer’s help.

Here's how to create your first project in Flash Catalyst CS5.

Step 1
Create a mockup in Illustrator for your Flash-based application, then save the file and open Flash Catalyst.

Step 2
Choose New Project from Design File > From Adobe Illustrator AI File. Catalyst asks you about some options, including how gradients and effects are applied. Click OK to continue.

Step 3
Now you can start applying behaviours to elements. Right-click on each part individually and select Convert Artwork to Component, picking what it should do from the list of available components.
