Taschen opens shop in The Simpsons to make Springfield hip

Digital Arts readers will know the often-luscious volumes of art, design, photography and "sexy" book publisher Taschen – but its stores have entered the popular consciousness as somewhere 'cool' people frequent, as evidenced by its appearance in a new episode of The Simpsons.

In the episode The Day The Earth Stood Cool, hipsters from Portland, Oregon attempt to trendify Springfield. Quickie Mart is replaced by Whole Foods, American Apparel takes over the tire factory and a Taschen store appears in place of Bart's favourite hangout, the comic book store.

The episode from series 24 aired in the US on December 9, but hasn't hit the UK yet – so we're not sure whether we'll see the Comic Book Guy flipping through 75 Years of DC Comics or Tom of Finland monographs rather than Radioactive Man. Or whether American Apparel has to pull ads from The Springfield Shopper that show suspiciously young-looking models in sexualised poses. Follow is on Facebook or Twitter and we'll let you know as soon as an airing date is published.
