Red Giant Software has released Film Fix, an After Effects plug-in aimed at editors and compositors working with degraded film stock.
Features offered by the software include the removal of tears, dust and scratches, as well as stabilizing footage in 2D. According to Red Giant, the processing is nearly automatic, provides high-quality output, and rivals dedicated high-end systems.
Red Giant says that the automated tear-repair tool is the only one of the market. The software also offers support for both video- and film-resolution footage, and the ability render across networks using AE's built-in render farm technology.
Film Fix costs £1,095 plus VAT, which includes unlimited network rendering nodes. It currently only works with the Windows version of AE 6.0/6.5, but a Mac OS X version is due for release in Q2 of 2005.
