Nokia has launched its WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Toolkit 2.0, which can now be downloaded free of charge from its Web site. Targeted at developers, the software tool offers a PC-based environment for writing, testing and de-bugging WAP 1.1 and 1.2 applications, the Finnish mobile phone and network infrastructure vendor said in a statement. Bundled in the toolkit are two mobile phone simulators, including one for prototyping certain WAP 1.2-compliant applications, including push services, Nokia said. WAP is a global standard for data communication between mobile handsets and the Internet or other computer applications. Developers registered in the Nokia WAP Developer Forum can download the toolkit for free from the Web at http://www.forum.nokia.com/.
