Memorex has released a new line of products at the CeBIT show in Hanover. Included in this line up are a tiny USB CD-RW drive aimed at laptop users, speedy CD-RW and DVD drives, a new FireWire cable and a host of new media. The Duo BBQ Slim is the size of a portable CD player and offers 4x write, 4x rewrite and 20x read. It works with both PC and Mac, and includes ports for FireWire, USB, PCMCIA and EPP. Following current design trends, it's also purple and transparent. It costs £349. The Eight-MAXX 400 CD-RW drive doesn't bother with the flashy design, ditching it in favour of 8x write, 4x rewrite and 32x reading for £199. The DVD-MAXX 840 reads DVD movies and games at 8x speed, and CDs at 40x. It costs £99. A 52x speed CD-ROM drives was also launched, costing £39. Memorex also used CeBIT to launch its new BBQ FireWire cable, which allows transfer at up to 7.8 MB/s. Amongst the media releases were Compact Flash cards (8 to 128 MB) and SmartMedia cards (8 to 32MB), colour co-ordinated MiniDiscs and new 25 or 100 packs of CD-Rs.
