Kodak Professional has announced a series of hardware and software upgrades for its range of digital cameras that will eliminate the need for users to carry around heavy equipment such as laptops. Available in a couple of months, the upgrades will allow users to upload images to online archives through a direct connection to a mobile phone. Soon after this even the phone won't be necessary - as GSM cards will plug straight into the camera. The project has been developed in conjunction with Nokia and Orange. Other upgrades will be included with this update. Raw finished TIFF and JPEG files will be able to be created in the camera, which also faciliates the direct upload solution. IPTC meta-data support will allow files to easily be incorporated into newspaper/archiving systems. Also added will be improved FireWire transmission, image acquisition and preview speed - as well as remote control over features including shutter speed and aperture settings.
