The Foundry has released its Keylight chroma-keying After Effects plug-in as a separately available product, making it accessible to users of Autodesk Combustion and the Standard edition of After Effects.

Keylight has previously only been available bundled with the Professional Edition of After Effects, as well with Apple Shake 4.1 and as a purchaseable plug-in for Avid|DS and Autodesk's Inferno, Flame, Flint, Fire and Smoke systems. It's been used on films such as King Kong, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Harry Potter series.

According to The Foundry, Keylight is easy to use, and is highly effective at tackling shots in which it is problematic to pull a clean key – particularly shots featuring hair, reflections and semi-transparent areas. It has a built-in spill suppression function, which the company says allows perfect matte to create after only the selection of the screen colour.

Light It Up

Keylight's features include an outside matte input to manage shots with uneven light, and an inside matte input to aid the prevention of print through and to help maintain the true colours of the source image. There are separate colour correction, suppression and edge correction tools for fine-tuning, and 8- and 16-bit image support.

Nodelocked licenses are available for £210 plus VAT or $395, and floating licenses can be purchased for £315 or $592.50. Keylight supports Windows version of Combustion, and After Effects 7.0 Standard on Mac and Windows.
