Boris FX has launched new versions of its Boris Red, Continuum Complete and Final Effects Complete at the IBC 2005 show in Amsterdam.

Boris Red 4.0 expands the compositing plug-in application to offer support for 16-bit per colour image processing. Procedural paint brushes create ribbon and roller brush paint effects. A new raster paint engine has been introduced to enable the cloning of paint brushes.

The raster conversion tool turns bitmap images into vector objects, which allows them to be extruded and animated. A keyframe window has been added, which offers a spreadsheet-style interface for numeric keyframe data.

New filters include Motion Key and Motion Path. Motion Key removes moving foreground objects from a clip. Motion Path animates objects on a spline path.

The upgrade adds support for Wacom tablets, with support for multiple paint input channels. EBU subtitle files can be imported to generate standard subtitles for DVDs. Integration with Avid's NLEs has been improved, according to Boris FX.

Boris Red 4.0 will ship in th first quarter of 2006, according to the company. Pricing has yet to be announced.
