The D&AD is sharpening its yellow pencils in anticipation of this year’s Awards ceremony, and has announced the nominees for 2006.

The D&AD Global Awards, familiarly known as the Yellow Pencils, are the most internationally respected and prestigious creative awards for the design and advertising industry. The Awards span 30 different categories from writing and art direction to architecture, graphic design, music videos and photography.

From 24,500 entries received, 744 have been selected for inclusion in The D&AD Annual 2006 as a record of the best work
of the year, and 142 of these have been nominated for a D&AD award.

Categories with a significant number of nominations this year include, Television & Cinema Crafts, Television & Cinema Advertising, Digital Crafts, Art Direction, and Online. Several new categories feature this year, including Gaming, Magazine & Newspaper Design, and Direct.

The most nominated work this year is the four times nominated press-&-poster campaign for retail store Harvey Nichols by DDBLondon. TV and Cinema Advertising entry, Noitulove, by AMV.BBDO for Guinness and Leo Burnett Canada’s digital & online entry, Big IdeasCome from Big Pencils, received three nominations each.

“A record amount of work from a record number of countries was entered into the D&AD Global Awards this year,’ said D&AD chief executive Michael Hockney. “The quality of nominations is due to the dedication and hard work of D&AD Judges, who ensure that our high standards are maintained.”

Nominated work can be viewed online at the D&AD Web site, and will be on public display at Old Billingsgate in London from May 3 until May 5, 2006. The winners of a D&AD Yellow Pencil, or the even more rare Black Pencil, will be announced at the D&AD Global Awards Ceremony & Dinner on May 24, 2006.
