Best in Vinyl Art 2008 winners announced

Art Vinyl – the London-based gallery and framing service dedicated to displaying vinyl artwork – has revealed the results of its competition to find the best vinyl sleeve design of 2008 as voted by online visitors to its site.

The winning album artwork was for Fleet Foxes’ debut album Fleet Foxes, designed by Dusty Summers, Sasha Barr and Robin Pecknold based on a historic painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

Second place was awarded tp Roots Manuva’s Slime & Reason: design by Oscar & Ewan and photography by Pelle Crepin.

In third place, Coldplay’s Viva la Vida also saw the use of a historic painting – in this case designer Tappin Gofton looked to Eugene Delacroix's 1830's painting Liberty Leading the People.

During January and February, the best Art Vinyl 2008 winners will feature in exhibitions around the UK at Rough Trade East in London, Snap Galleries in Birmingham, Fishmarket Gallery in Northampton and the Perfect Pad Gallery in Norwich.
