Alien Skin Software has released Eye Candy 6, a new version of its graphic design special effects plug-in for Photoshop. The 30 filters in Eye Candy render beautifully detailed realistic effects that are difficult or impossible to achieve in Photoshop alone, according to the company.

Eye Candy 6 can create Web interfaces (Chrome, Glass, Perspective Shadow), logos (Bevel, Brushed Metal, Extrude), and titles (Chrome, Corona, Fire). Alien Skin says that realism sets Eye Candy effects apart from the generic filters built into Photoshop, as effects like Animal Fur, Smoke, and Reptile Skin are rendered in exquisite detail down to individual hairs, turbulent wisps, and irregular bumps.

Alien Skins says that Eye Candy makes it easy to apply tasteful special effects to any project through a deceptively simple user interface. The presets are now organized into categories and each one adapts to fit the size of your current image. There are numerous presets and you can also customize each effect and save your own settings.

Eye Candy 6 supports 16-bit per channel images and CMYK, as well as multi-core CPUs and the 64-bit version of Photoshop.

Eye Candy 6 costs $249 (around £150), or $99 (£60) as an upgrade
