The nominations for this year's Emmy Awards were announced on Friday, so we've collected behind-the-scenes visual effects videos of the TV shows up for the 2015 VFX Emmy.
Heading up the nominations is Game of Thrones, which picked up the award last year. You can see a breakdown of German VFX studio Mackevision's work on the recent Season 5 above, and watch an interview with Mackevision's CEO about working on Game of Thrones below.
Mackevision primarily worked on creating and compositing the CG landscapes and buildings. Also working on the show were Pixomondo and Rodeo FX, which haven't released VFX breakdowns for Season 5 yet (but you can see Season 4 breakdowns from them below)/
Individual episodes are nominated rather than entire seasons, and the nominated episode is The Dance of Dragons. This features a huge gladitorial arena (though this largely the real Osuna bullring in Spain) and the eponymous dragon – as well as the most truly horrific scene in a series on truly horrible scenes.
Competing with Game of Thrones for the 2015 VFX Emmy are Black Sails, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, The Flash and Vikings.
The primary VFX house on pirate drama Black Sails is Digital Domain. VFX supervisor Aladino Debert has posted a VFX breakdown, but he's not letting any embed it.
Most of The Flash's VFX were created by Encore Hollywood, and you can watch how CounterPunch Studios created the head rig for Encore to use below.
Mr X worked on Vikings' VFX. Watch their making-of film below.
VFX Emmy winner 2014: Game of Thrones VFX breakdown

VFX Houses working on Season 4 of Game of Thrones include Pixomondo, Rodeo FX and Mackevision. Watch VFX breakdowns below.
