Illustration by numbers: an in-depth guide to creating infographics

Data on the move

For a university project, Singapore-based designer Rayz Ong created his own dataset, using little more than a bus ticket and some careful note taking.

“During the journey, I recorded the number of passengers board, alighting, and the on-board data statistics, including race, gender, age group and more,” says Rayz.

He explains the biggest hurdle was analysing the data to figure out how to tell the story – and his favourite aspect? “As the information content is huge, I could use many colours to create the elements. When you combine all these design elements, you get an interactive, yet aesthetically beautiful piece of art,” he says.
