Drawing with Director

So it turns out that Macromedia Director isn't as dead as we thought.

Though it hasn't been updated since the beginning of 2004, and at least 90 per cent of what interactive designers used to do with it can be done in Flash, there are still some hardcore users creating some great fun projects with it.

Check out Mikons, an online vector graphics tool built in the old multimedia software (that we're using the term multimedia shows just how old it is). Online drawing tools have been around for a while, but this is more inspired by the likes of Illustrator or Freehand: offering shapes, curve manipulation with control handles, symbols, and replication and alignment tools.

The site has also got that community-based Web 2.0 thing going on. If you sign up, you can share your designs with friends and colleagues.

It's in no way a pro design tool, but it's simple, easy-to-use and a great way to wile away a few hours.
