Photoshop tutorial: Content-Aware Move in Photoshop CS6 step-by-step

The Content-Aware Move tool taps the technologies behind Content-Aware Fill and the Clone Brush, allowing you to move elements within a scene while Photoshop automatically fills in the missing details. If used with care, the results can be seamless.

Step 1

Step 2

Open your image in Photoshop CS6 and select the Content Aware Move tool, which is in the same submenu as the Healing Brush (you can just hit Shift + J until it’s selected). Using its lasso, encircle the area you want to move.

Step 3

Set the Adaptation level to the level of strictness you need – here I set the Adaptation to ‘Very Strict’, although you may find a looser tolerance works better on some images. Drag the selection to its new location in the image. Retouch any minor blemishes with the Healing Brush tool.

Step 4

Voila – the selection has been seamlessly moved to the left.
