Cel-style colouring

Cel art in detail

Once you’ve had a go at achieving basic cel art, you are ready to take things one step further. This section looks at how to produce more detailed cel art colouring, starting with parts of the body.

<p>
1. To achieve a full range of depth, use four-tone shading (base, shadow, darker shadow, highlight) on the skin. First fill the skin layer with a base colour, and lock it to prevent colouring outside the lines.

<p>
2. Suggest depth and form by adding a darker shadow colour to both the bottom of the upper and lower lip.
</p>
<p>
If the lips are closed, filling the entire upper lip with shadow is an effective technique for making the lower lip more pronounced.
