The new version of Encore DVD shares many of the other enhancements of the Production Studio components. Customizable workspaces with automatically resizing palettes, roundtrip editing via Dynamic Link, and the Bridge media management utility all contribute to improved efficiency in the system.

The most obvious of the new Encore features is the Flowchart, a graphical depiction of the links in a DVD project. This type of overview is found in high-end compositing applications, and provides an at-a-glance chart of the relationships between all the project elements. You can drag elements into the project from Windows Explorer or the Encore Library and quickly establish navigation links by simply pulling a line from one element to another.

It’s now possible to drag the pick whip for each element in the Properties Panel to the new link destination. Flowchart takes advantage of Encore’s toolbar, allowing you to move, rotate, preview, or open any compatible element in Photoshop, After Effects, or Premiere Pro for editing.

Scrub the deck

border=0 />Timeline editing has been improved, with enhanced scrubbing and trimming, as well as the ability to mix multiple assets on the same timeline. This means that you don’t necessarily have to keep switching out to an external editor, but just edit clips in Encore and preview the results in the Monitor window. </p> <p> Encore can now automatically create chapter points at set intervals, as well as letting you add them manually. Unlike some (cheaper) competitors, Encore doesn’t offer automatic scene detection for imported assets, though this facility doesn’t always live up to its potential. </p> <p> If you’ve edited footage in Premiere Pro, any scene markers are imported with the footage. More big enhancements can be seen in the slideshow features, making Encore one of the best tools available for this task. Importing a group of <BR> images as a slideshow builds the project elements automatically.
