Tobias Hall studied Illustration at Coventry University; and currently works for restaurant chain Zizzi as in-house designer.
Where did you train, and what did you specialise in?
I studied Illustration at Coventry University.
What are your favourite tools?
When I’m drawing an illustration by hand, I mainly use pigment liners of varying weights. The majority of my work is put together in Photoshop though, where I’m a sucker for a Soft Light layer setting.
What techniques do you use most?
I always start a piece by hand and then scan it into Photoshop to add colour and texture. Recently, I’ve introduced a far greater tonal range to my work, blocking out areas with the Pen tool and using the eraser and opacity to blend them in.
What’s your favourite piece you’ve created?
I’d have to say Bound, which accompanied a poem in Popshot magazine. I like it’s simplicity.
Which clients have you worked for?
I’m currently the in-house designer for Italian restaurant chain Zizzi, but I’ve also created pieces for Seattle magazine and The University of Pittsburgh.
To accompany a poem in Popshot Magazine called 'When I say I have come to love you' by Gregory Heath, about someone who feels faited to continue loving their partner despite how badly they are treated.
