The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced yesterday the nominees for the 15th annual VES awards, and you can expect some intense competition.

The awards choose nominees in 24 categories, recognising visual effects in film, animation, television, commercial and video games and the people who bring these to life.

There aren’t many surprises - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story received the most feature film nominations (seven), closely followed by Doctor Strange and The Jungle Book, both of which who each earned six. All three of the films are also Oscar nominated for the best VFX film of 2016 - Check out our VFX Oscar nominated films featureKubo and the Two Strings has six nominations under its belt, and Game of Thrones looks set to win at least one award for television with it's impressive 11 nominations.

Also expect to see Oscar-nominees Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Deepwater Horizon making the list, as well as 2016's John Lewis Christmas ad and Opel Motorsport’s motley crew of CG characters under the commercial nominations.

The winners will be announced at the VES Awards held in February.

Listing the nominees for all 24 categories would be laborious, so we’ve picked out the films, animations and television shows with the most nominations overall, as well as including a list of the nominees for Oustanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, Television, Animation and Commercial.
