In the UK these days it seems that preparing for Christmas doesn't really kick off among the general populace until the John Lewis ad hits our screens. In Spain, the  season signifier appears to be the run up to the country's massive Christmas lottery, known as ‘El Gordo’ (literally, the fat one).

Leo Burnettt Spain has created a campaign for Sorteo de Navidad which features an animated short for the first time. To announce the opening of the lottery, Justino tells a story that illustrates the joy of sharing.

Justino is a security guard at a mannequin factory. Because he does the night shift he never interacts with his colleagues, and yet he spends his nights surrounded by human figures. His solitude and his eagerness to share things lead him to play with the mannequins, and later to communicate through them with his colleagues on the day shift.

The animation by Passion Pictures directors againstallodds is charming and very accomplished, with some great character work and lighting.

As well as being shown on TV and in cinemas, the campaign website www.fabricademaniquies.es reveals the secrets and stories of the factory where the action takes place. The mannequin business has a Facebook page, and Justino himself has an Instagram account.
