Author: Martian surface and environments, dust storms and digital doubles among 425 shots for sci-fi drama
We've already seen how the UI and interfaces for the screens for The Martian were created, now we're able to get a glimpse of some of the work that went into the major VFX set pieces of this year's sci-fi spectacular.
Led by production VFX supervisor Richard Stammers, and MPC VFX supervisors Anders Langlands and Tim Ledbury, the Moving Picture Company was the lead visual effects studio on Ridley Scott’s The Martian, delivering 425 shots.
The team was responsible for all of the scenes that took place on Mars, including shots of hero astronaut Watney working around the Hab, travelling across the Martian surface in his rover, storm sequence and shuttle launch sequences.
