Bait rebrands S4C's childrens programming

Friday 23 Nov 2007 - 10:43

Welsh broadcaster S4C in association with Boomerang has commissioned motion graphics company Bait to rebrand its two new children’s services: Planed Plant Bach, aimed at children from ages 0-7, and Planed Plant, aimed at children aged 7 and over.

The project forms the final stage of a total S4C channel rebrand which launched earlier this year.

The new-look Planed Plant Bach ident features a family of cute animated animals including a lion, a chicken and an elephant, which reflect the colours within the new S4C identity. The characters are designed to work as mascots that can be easily transferable across a range of platforms and mediums, including a double-decker bus which will travel around the country to help promote the channel as well as providing an OB function.

The Planed Plant ident uses modern eye-catching motion graphics to produce a cool, contemporary look to appeal to a slightly older target audience. The creative has an abstract and youthful feel rather than relying on a narrative based approach, in order to appeal to the broad range of children in this age group.

"The challenge was to develop two completely separate identities that would still work side by side," saud Owain Elidir, Director of Bait. "We embraced this opportunity to re-brand the service by ensuring that each execution would be easily transferable across a range of platforms. Also, whilst each service retains an individual identity, both form part of a unified look and feel in keeping with the new-look S4C brand.”

The new channel idents will be incorporated across a range of platforms, including print, merchandise, online and on-air promotional activity.
