Morpheme animates for next-gen games

Monday 31 Jul 2006 - 11:41

NaturalMotion has debuted an animation engine aimed at games companies working on next-generation titles for PlayStation3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Morpheme features two elements -- the morpheme:connect authoring application and the morpheme:runtime engine.

 border=0 />Morpheme:connnect provides animators with control over in-game animation blending and transitioning. It provides graphical editing of animation state machines and blend trees, and features a 3D viewport that provides an in-game preview. Control parameters can be manipulated in real-time through graphical widgets or gamepads.
</p>

<p>
It ships with a 3D animation browser, which suppors clip preview and event mark-up. Custom morpheme:runtime nodes are supported through scripting, and all application data is accessible through Lua scripting. NaturalMotion says that morpheme:connnect is fully extensible through plugins.
</p>

<p>
The morpheme:runtime engine is embedded within a next-generation games engine. It provides advanced animation blending and transitioning, including IK and animation-driven rigid body dynamics.

Pricing and availability has yet to be announced.
