The TAB 2.2 goes Pro

Monday 14 Jun 2004 - 00:00

The TAB, the vector animation tool from Digital Video, the makers of Toonz, has been updated to version 2.2, now available for Mac OS X. The latest version also includes improved performance and functionality according to the company, with the previous single version becoming two: Pro and Lite.

The TAB now includes alpha channel support for both input and output in order to preserve full transparency information. A new type tool is included to add, transform and paint text with the TAB tools and styles.

New export options include 3GP format for mobile phones and wireless devices and SCR format for Windows screen savers. Digital Video also claims that the Flash output is improved with the generated SWF files being smaller with additional options. The interface also flaunts improvements.

The new Pro edition includes several feature enhancements, including a raster-to-vector converter to allow users to import raster images directly into The TAB, the ability to add mask columns, and new configurable export options including BMP, JPG, TIF or TGA.

The TAB 2.2 is on sale on the company’s Web site for $395 (around £220); the TAB 2.2 Pro edition costs $895 (£500). An upgrade from the TAB 2.0 to 2.2 costs $195 (£110). An upgrade from the TAB 2.0 to the TAB 2.2 Pro normally costs $695 (£390) but is available for $400 (£220) for a limited time.
