Canon adds two 2Mp camcorders

Monday 10 May 2004 - 00:00

Canon has announced two new 2.2Mp camcorders, the MVX20i with a 12x zoom, and the MVX25i with a 14x zoom. They both feature a 1/3.4-inch CCD which will record 2.0Mp still pictures to SD or MMC memory cards, as well as 1.77Mp movies to tape.

Both cameras also feature Canon’s DIGIC DV processor which has two separate paths for stills and movies, and an RGB primary colour filter for colour accuracy. The cameras feature a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

For still photography, the camera includes a 5fps drive, Auto Exposure Bracketing, and PictBridge compatibility for PC-less printing.

Both the 12x and 14x lenses employ Super Spectral coatings and Canon’s Gradation ND system to retain image quality. Seven auto-exposure shooting modes are featured on the MVX20i, while the MVX25i additionally features Super Night mode, with an LED for shooting in zero-light conditions, and Night+ mode, which enables manual control of the LED.

The cameras also feature image stabilization and a high resolution 16:9 format to record true 16:9 footage. The MVX20i and MVX25i will be available from the end of June 2004, pricing yet to be announced.
