Addictive-TV to remix Olympics coverage

Tuesday 22 Jul 2008 - 10:38

Audiovisual mash-up artistes Addictive-TV – who've been making a name for themselves recently with their remixes of Hollywood movies including Iron Man – have been commissioned to do a full-length live remix of Olympics footage.

The project, for Austrian state broadcaster ORF, will see the duo travel to Austria to remix the station's live feeds with music, archive footage, video effects and anything else they seize upon. The innovative sessions, which are supported by the EU and various European universities, among others, will be presented as an interactive, 'red button' option for viewers. Addictive-TV are one of three VJ outfits chosen to participate in the project, and will grace the airwaves on August 16 and 17.

In preparation for the event, Addictive-TV have been supplied with plenty of archive footage, and are already working on creating audiovisual bedding tracks by cutting loops of footage that can be used as a 'backing' for live elements, using Ableton Live, PremierePro, Camart's audiovisual sequencing software VJammPro and Grass Valley's Edius NLE system.

The live remixing project isn't the duo's only Olympics project: Addictive-TV has also been commissioned by Adidas to create a sports-themed installation, titled Sportive, which is touring China and will be on display in Beijing throughout the Games.

Graham Daniels of Addictive-TV comments: "Just like the old saying about waiting ages for a bus and then three come along at once, it's strangely co-incidental that we're involved in more than one Olympics related projects – hopefully we'll be able to do the same again come 2012 and the London Olympics!"

Of the Sportive installation, Daniels explains that it will consist of "sampling all the video extracts and their accompanying sounds from beautiful footage provided by the Adidas archive. We then pieced together a selection of the samples, creating music from only the sounds of sports – using football kicks and tennis ball hits as beats and running feet as the bass, and so on – building up a multi-screen piece of pure visual music, created entirely from sports sounds."
