In conjunction with its major digital and interactive design exhibition, Decode: Digital Design Sensations, the V&A has appointed Christian Kerrigan as its first-ever Digital Design Artist in Residence.
Kerrigan's residency starts immediately and will run until June 2010. He will spend the time creating new works for his ongoing project, The 200 Year Continuum.
The V&A says: "Since 2007, he has produced and recorded a number of stories for the project, working with contemporary technology to make art that imagines future scenarios of society and the natural world using digital drawings, objects and installations.
"The artist will explore the V&A’s digital archives as a valuable source for examining past and present mythologies relating to technology, nature and mortality. Specifically focusing on the Prints and Drawings collection, Kerrigan will initially explore imagined stories and mythical landscapes in Japanese prints to create new works or ‘middle stories’ to add to The 200 Year Continuum."
He will also hold open studios and other public events, and will take part in the SAP Weekend: Digital Design Festival, which takes place next month.
