Magix acquires Xara

Wednesday 31 Jan 2007 - 09:12

UK graphics software maker Xara has been acquired by German multimedia technology company Magix.

Since 1981, Xara has developed a range of affordable graphic design and web graphics software and online publishing solutions, the most popular being its powerful drawing and illustration package Xara Xtreme.

Magix offers consumer and professional software, online services and digital content for designing, editing, sharing and archiving digital photos, videos and music. Based on sales of products in 2005, Magix claims the leading market position in Germany and several other European countries, and was one of the three leading market players in the US.

Xara will trade as a subsidiary of Magix under the existing management. It will continue to develop the Xara products including Xara Xtreme, which will be sold under both Xara and Magix brands.
