Autodesk has announced that it will stop selling full and upgrade versions of its ImageModeler 2009 software on November 2. The software, which was previously owned and developed by RealViz, creates 3D models from 2D stills.
ImageModeler 2009 is currently available bundled with 3ds Max 2010, 3ds Max Design 2010, and Maya® 2010 when purchased with a Subscription maintainance package. From Nov 2, this will be the only way to obtain the software
Autodesk says that "this decision has been made to refine and simplify our product range, while at the same time providing our customers with an improved and more complete workflow solution."
The company says that there are fewer than 100 current owners of ImageModeler 2009.
Autodesk bought RealViz in August 2008, at which point it killed some of the company's products and kept others. Currently only the Stitcher Unlimited 2009 panorama-stitching software is available for purchase, with the MatchMover motion tracking software currently bundled with Maya 2010.
