The Design Museum is to host an exhibition on the works of London-based industrial design office Industrial Facility, starting in May.
Industrial Facility is led by designer Sam Hecht, architect Kim Colin, and designer Ippei Matsumoto. Although they're far from being household names in the UK, their works are aimed almost entirely at mass production in foreign markets, and they've achieved recognition on the international design scene through their emphasis on simple, sparsely-designed everyday items such as kitchen utensils, coffee makers and stationery.
The firm serves as creative advisors to Japanese lifestyle chain Muji, and has designed almost 50 items for them.
In a smaller exhibition running alongside this, Industrial Facility's Sam Hecht displays almost 100 items he's collected in the past 15 years that cost 'under a fiver', ranging from the highly kitsch to the spartan and highly functional; the items serve as a chronicle of contemporary culture and mass production.
The exhibitions take place May 9 to September 7, 2008. For visiting information see here.
