Strategic design and advertising agency 72andSunny has just released "Meltdown," the latest artist video collaboration to be featured on zune-arts.net.
"Meltdown" is directed by Epoch Ink Animation and features the "We Are Glitter" remix of the track "Strict Machine" from electro-glam duo Goldfrapp. The 1:30 film tells the story of two combative desert cobras brought together by a surprise
encounter with an ice cream cone mysteriously falling from the sky.
Epoch Ink Animation is perhaps best known for co-creating Pearl Jam's "Do The Evolution" video, which was nominated for Music Video of the Year at the 41st Grammy Awards. Said Sam Baerwald, Executive Producer, 72andSunny,
"Joe Pearson and the crew at Epoch Ink did a phenomenal job marrying Goldfrapp's music with their comic book-inspired imagery. The energy of the song is infused into every fiber of the story, characters and aesthetic. Achieving that sort of seamless balance is pretty rare."
"Meltdown" opens on a scorched desert landscape. Suddenly, an ice cream cone tumbles from the sky, much to the surprise of a famished cobra, which immediately goes to town on this rare delicacy. His happiness soon turns to
disappointment however, when he's joined by another hungry snake. The two square off and hiss until they notice the rapidly melting cone. Letting their territorial instincts go by the wayside, the two gleefully indulge, lapping away until sharing causes their cobra hoods to sparkle magically. Before long, the two are rewarded for their good deeds with countless ice cream cones raining from the heavens.
Zune Arts is an opportunity for artists to explore themes like sharing and friendship in new ways. Since the program kicked off in 2006, 72andSunny has been continually surprised at how far these themes have been pushed-especially tonally. Unexpected twists include "Meltdown" taking the subject of sharing, and giving it a menacing, intense vibe.
"As Zune Arts heads into its second year, the program will continue its mission of fostering collaborations between artists in all mediums. The more artists involved, the merrier. We want Zune Arts to remain an invitation and keep evolving and growing. The only way to do that is with a constant stream ofnew ideas, voices and connections," said Glenn Cole, Co-Founder/Creative Director, 72andSunny.
Epoch Ink Animation is based in Venice, CA and led by Joe Pearson, an animation industry pioneer who, in addition to his music video and film credits, also created famed videogame character "Crash Bandicoot."
