CS3: Soundbooth gives audio to video pros

Tuesday 27 Mar 2007 - 05:01

Launching today as part of the new Creative Suite 3, Soundbooth CS3 replaces Audition in Adobe’s collection -- though the company will still develop and sell Audition for audio pros.

Soundbooth is designed to be much quicker and easier for visual creatives to learn, using techniques and terminology they are used to – and aiming directly for Apple’s Soundtrack Pro.

The application focuses on audio clean-up, score composition and effects filters. Its clean-up tools can remove background hiss, rumbles, click, pops and other artefacts automatically (below) -- or by applying the Healing Brush-style Auto Heal function (bottom) on a visual representation of an audio clip’s spectral analysis.

Soundbooth Scores (below) provide a collection of musical themes that you can customize in the AutoComposer function to fit to your video, changing timing, intensity, and choice of instruments. More Scores, as well as sound effects, can be downloaded from Adobe’s Resource Central Web site.

15 audio filters are included, such as EQ, compression, reverb, echo, chorus, distortion, and time and pitch stretching. Presets are included, and up to five can be used at once, with real-time playback.

Other tools include mastering presets including a one-click Vocal Enhancer function, recording tools, integration with Premiere Pro CS3 and the ability to create animation cues for Flash (below).
