The newest campaign for Burger King is an all-star affair, directed by Spike Lee and featuring rapper and mogul P-Diddy, with special effects provided by Smoke & Mirrors New York.
The ad highlights Burger King's later opening hours, and takes the form of a public service announcement, in which the artist formerly known as Puff states, "Tell 'em Diddy said BK is open late," causing scenes of havoc at Burger Kings everywhere.
The spot required extensive work from Smoke & Mirrors, including widening the opening shot, cleaning up shots throughout the spot, head replacement on both Diddy and the CEO character, rebuilding shots for Web purposes and more.
Smoke & Mirrors say: "A chance to work with the legendary director Spike Lee and CP+B [Crispin Porter + Bogusky, the agency that commissioned the spot] proved irresistible for us.
"As we started our work, the copy was still changing. Diddy and the CEO character required intricate head replacement to match the new script. Lead artist Dan Kelly worked some magic and the problem was solved in Flame... Lastly, we were asked to take one shot and rebuild it for web purposes. Diddy was rotoscoped and the entire background set rebuilt with Diddy repositioned centre frame, where he belongs!"
