British illustrator and artist Olly Moss has been applying his pared down approach to movie posters for film classics for a while now, so it's good to see him working on one for a new film for a change. To coincide with the release of the third film in Christopher Nolan's reinvented Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, Olly will be selling a poster through Mondo Tees – but it's available on Wednesday only.
The poster uses Olly's trademark restrained mix of geometry, shading and texture – emphasising the shape of the logo in the mask's visor more than most interpretations. It's a lot better than Nissan's recent attempt to create a piece around the Batman silhouette, though the credits are a little too large for our liking – which is possibly due to constraints placed by Warner Bros. Unlike most reinvented film posters we see – but just like Olly's Star Wars set – this is officially licensed.
Olly's The Dark Knight Rises poster is available as a 16x12-inch timed edition, so will be available from 5am on Weds for 24 hours. A 24x36 edition was available at Comic-Con in San Diego last week.
On his blog, Olly says that he completed the poster back in February and he's kept it secret til now. We wonder what else is currently under his hat.
