UPDATE 7/12/12: After a wealth of support including a shout out on Twitter from Stephen Fry, Gallery of Mo raised over £11,000. Well done chaps and chapesses!
Digital agency twentysix's Gallery of Mo charity project is back for a second year to help raise money for Movember, where men around the world grown a moustache over the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer (and money for associated categories). The agency is on the lookout for both artists and participants, with over 180 artists already signed up to the project.
Support for Movember has been an annual tradition for the agency since 2008. In 2010, its ‘Mo’s Wanted’ site highlighted the team’s participation in the campaign and encouraged others to get involved. Last year, for the first Gallery of Mo, 29 artists illustrated 189 portraits.
The next Gallery of Mo is primed to launch in mid-October and the design team at twentysix is now signing up artists and illustrators prepared to offer their time and skills to create moustachioed portraits. Donors pick an artist and make a donation to Movember using the site, with the amount they donate reflected in the time spent on their portrait.
Artists already signed up include Drew Millward. Other special guest artists, such as Charlie Adlard and the Felt Mistress, are also contributing. However the Gallery of Mo is seeking artists of all nationalities and genres to take part.
“We were delighted with the response last year, and are looking to raise even more money in 2012 with the backing and support of the Movember organisers," says Adam Campion, a designer at twentysix. "If you are an artist or illustrator Gallery of Mo is a fantastic way of showing your support for a great cause. It won’t be massively time consuming – with the time spent on each portrait depending on the amount donated – but is a great way of using your talents to raise money and awareness of men’s health issues.
“And for those taking part in Movember, or just supporting the cause, the Gallery is a great way of documenting your involvement for posterity, and getting your hands on a fun, one-of-a-kind portrait!”
Creatives who would like to sign-up to the Gallery of Mo – or pre-register to have their portraits created – can do so at galleryofmo.co.uk.
