Adobe has issued a fix for a bug that was causing InDesign to crash on MacBook Pros (and Airs) using Ivy Bridge processors.

The company admitted that there was an issue with its programs and the version of OS X 10.7.4 that comes pre-installed on the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops. The issue is summed up as “InDesign Crashes with Blank Dialog Boxes on Mac OS 10.7.4”.

Adobe has published details on its InDesign Help webpage. It describes the issue as: "When working within InDesign or InCopy CS5 or later on a 2012 Mac OS system, you receive a blank warning dialog box that causes the application to crash when performing certain functions.”

Adobe blames the latest update to Lion, claiming it “has removed an API file that InDesign uses to work with system icons. By placing the files directly within the applications we are working around the function the API served.”

Adobe says it is working with Apple to resolve the issue.

The patch runs a script that installs three InDesign icons automatically. If the script does not run, a manual installation of the files directly into the application's resources folder is required.

Since June, InDesign users have been pointing out that versions CS5, CS5.5, and CS6 will cause a system and/or application crash on the new 2012 models of Apple's MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, and Retina MacBook Pros, under certain circumstances, such as when the program displays a warning dialog box.
