Professor Astro Cat from creative studio Minilab’s children’s app is back– but this time with a new theme.

After the release and success of Professor Astro Cat’s Solar System app, which won a Webby Award, Minilab has created a new, puzzle-packed app game available just in time for the summer holidays. Minilab is also the digital content creators for Artie’s Magic Pencil – an app aimed to teach the fundamentals of drawing to children.

The new app, named Galactic Genius with Astro Cat, is aimed at six to 11-year-olds. Players can create a profile with funky cat avatars, and learn about space with six mini games, daily challenges and collectable stickers.

Games include memorising locations of Astro Cat and friends, looking at planets, spotting UFOs and aliens and assembling suits to keep Astro Cat safe from space. You can find out more about the app’s features and games here, or watch the video below.

The artwork is based on illustrations by Ben Newman for the original Astro Cat books, and the science information inspired by the writing of quantum physicist Dr Dominic Walliman.

Galactic Genius with Astro Cat will be available for iOS 7.0 or later from today, with an Android version to follow. Minilab creates digital content for children.

Ben Newman and Zelda Turner have created Professor Astro Cat’s Intergalactic Activity Book, available to buy from Flying Eye Books for US$13.95. There’s also Professor Astro Cat’s Atomic Adventure, and Frontiers of Space for US$24.

Download it from the iTunes app store for free play with limited access, or pay £3.99 for the full version.
