Pixologic has announced version 1.1 of its ZBrush faux 3D paint package. It will be released on January 9, 2001 at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Version 1.1 is the first commercially available version of the package for both Windows and Mac and includes all of the bug fixes added since the demo-only 1.0 release. The app uses its proprietary Pixol rendering technology to give pixels a Z (depth) attribute alongside their usual X and Y co-ordinates on the screen. This allows artists to paint with depth and push and pull areas on screen. It also has facilities to create and edit lights, change material properties and add 2D and 3D effects. ZBrush 1.1 is a free upgrade for registered users of previous versions. The app costs $292.50 for a limited time, although Pixologic has not stated how long this will last. After this period ZBrush will cost $585.
