In a surprise move, Apple has released its low-end DV editing software - iMovie - for free. The application, which was bundled with its special edition iMac, offers FireWire-equipped Mac OS users basic video-editing and effects features. The download, available from Apple's Web site, follows complaints by some professional Mac OS users that high-end FireWire Macs lacked video-editing software as standard. The download is 19.6MB in size, but lacks the 160MB of tutorial movies included in the bundled package. The release follows the company's aggressive move into the DV arena - both professionally and in the consumer market. Digit is working to save you the download by featuring it on the August issue CD.
