Sony Pictures Digital has released version 5 of its Vegas video editing software at the NAB show in Las Vegas. The NLE, previously owned by Sonic Foundry, combines video and audio editing applications, and is also available with the DVD Architect 2 and Dolby Digital AC-3 Encoder software under the name of Vegas+DVD.

Vegas 5 includes compositing tools such as 3D track motion and keyframable Bézier masks, supported by network rendering. It supports the import of Flash SWF movies and ACID software loops with property information intact, and the export of subtitles and/or text to DVD Architect 2. Audio support has been bolstered to include 5.1 audio plug-in support at the master bus level, film-style 5.1 surround panning, downmix monitoring, and external control surface support.

DVD Architect 2 gains subtitle creation tools, support for multiple audio track support and real-time external monitor output.

Vegas 5 costs $699.95 in the US (around £390), though UK pricing has yet to be announced. Vegas+DVD costs $999.95 (around £555).
