iPhone fans were up bright an early this morning, joining a queues outside O2 shops and the Apple Stores around London in search of a new iPhone 3G S.

The iPhone 3G S is not a free upgrade to existing users, so queues as large as the ones last July are not expected. Also the contract is slightly more expensive than last year’s.

We spoke to one new iPhone owner outside the London Bridge O2 store who had upgraded his original iPhone. He explained: “My current iPhone is now out of contract so this upgrade was a no brainier. Knowing that iPhone 3G owners have to pay a small fortune to upgrade if they want a iPhone 3G S makes me very happy that I didn’t update my phone last July.”

A similar queue has formed outside the Apple Store.
