Roxio, the software side of Adaptec, has announced Toast 5 Titanium, the next version of the company’s Mac CD recording software. As well as running on Mac OS 8.x and 9.x like Toast 4, version 5 adds an OS X version. The most significant new features in the upgrade include background CD burning, MPEG encoding for creating VideoCDs and support for most DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW drives. The interface has also been redesigned to fit with OS X’s Aqua look-&-feel. Toast 5 also ships with the iView Multimedia media cataloguing software and Qdesign MVP, a digital media player and converter. Roxio has also brought over some of the functions of Toast’s Windows equivalent Easy CD Creator. CD Spin Doctor allows audio to be cleaned up, while Discus allows CD labels to be designed. Toast 5 Titanium will ship in the spring in the US for $99. UK pricing and availability has yet to be announced.
