Fujifilm has launched the first digital camera in its 'Z' small-&-stylish range to offer facial-detection technology. According to the company, the Face Detection mode on the FinePix Z5fd can recognize up to 10 faces in an image, and adjust focus and exposure to create the best image.

Face Detection mode is designed for circumstances when there isn't time to adjust settings manually. It can cope with back-lit scenes, and shots where there's a more obvious focus point or an off-centre subject.

The Z5fd is available in a range of colours: raspberry red, mocha brown and silver. It has a 6.3-megapixel CCD with an ISO 1600 mode for capturing subjects in low-light without using flash.

The camera has a 3x optical zoom lens on the front, and a 2.5-inch scratch-resistant screen on the back. It will be released in January. Pricing will be announced nearer to its release date, says Fujifilm.
