Sony has announced two new digital still cameras, both available in October: the 5megapixel DSC-F707 and 3.2megapixel DSC-P5. The F707 replaces the F505 and includes a new SuperHAD CCD with a 14-bit digital processor. It has a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens that offers 5x optical zoom (plus 10x digital) and an aperture rating of F2.0-2.4. It uses the same Hologram AF technology as the PC120, as well as using it combined with IR detection to take images even in total darkness. The F707 will cost around £1,000 including VAT.
The DSC-P5 is small, lightweight and stylish. It also has a new SuperHAD CCD and 14-bit digital processor – as well as burst mode, MPEG-1 video recording, 3x optical and 6x digital zoom, macro mode down to 10cm and a 1.5-inch LCD. It will cost around £600 including VAT.
