Sony has released a digital photo printer than can output professional quality prints. The printer works with postcard (4:3 ratio, 15.2-x-10cm) or photo (3:2 ratio, 13.4-x-10cm) paper – and can apply glossy, matte or textured finishes to printed images. It uses a dye sublimation process that allows a colour depth of 16.7 million. Each print takes around 85 seconds to appear and the printer can hold up to 25 sheets. Images can be created using a wide range of bundled software: including Arcsoft Photobase, PhotoPrinter 2000, PhotoFantasy 2000, PhotoStudio, and Panorama Maker 2000. The printer connects to the user’s computer via a USB or parallel cable. It is book-shaped and can be placed on the desk in either a vertical or horizontal position. It costs £297 plus VAT, with photo media costing £12.75 plus VAT for 5 sheets of photo paper, £12.75 plus VAT for 5 sheets of postcard-sized paper and £12.75 plus VAT for 5 sheets of photo-sized sticker paper.
