Sony has launched a whole new range of Handycam camcorders. Here are the highlights.
The flagship model is the Handycam HDR-XR520VE, which shoots video at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution in AVCHD format and can capture still images at 12-megapixel resolution. It also has a 'dual-rec' mode that shoots still images and video at the same time, and can splice stills and video clips together to create simple movies for you. It can even add music and transition effects automatically, using its own built-in library of effects and music.
Other features include GPS geo-tagging -- which will come in handy with the latest version of iPhoto -- and a 12x optical zoom. However, its stand out feature is the built-in 240GB hard drive, which Sony says can store a full 101 hours of HD video.
The huge hard drive means a huge price of about £1,300, but there are less expensive models in the range with smaller hard drives, with prices starting at around £650 for the XR105 model that has an 80GB disk. Other interesting models include the XR200, which has 120GB hard drive and 15x optical zoom, for about £900.
There's also a lightweight model called the CX105, priced at about £500. This model cuts its weight down to just 280g by getting rid of the hard drive. It has just 8GB of flash memory for storage, but you can add extra memory by using an SD memory card.
