Silicon Systems has announced the launch of the SSL-1225, an affordable modular graphics server system specifically for small to medium-sized businesses. The SSL-1225 is a purpose-designed server solution for design companies, repro houses, web designers, publishers, advertising agencies, printers and graphics companies. Intended for businesses wanting to move to a server-based workflow or upgrade existing servers, the SSl-1225 runs a Linux operating systems that's optimized for dealing with graphics files, which are typical much larger than other types of data. Configured to work with both Macintosh and PC workstations, the server system includes fault-tolerant RAID storage, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, a range of back-up devices and UPS as standard options. Optional application software includes OPI, digital asset management, PDF workflow and imposition software. The SSL-1225 is available with one or two, 1 GHz Intel CPUs and can be configured with RAID to provide capacities of 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB or 225GB. The entry point for a base system is £1,949 which includes the SSl-1200 Series blue stell cabinet containing the SSL-1225 server configured with 128MB RAM, a 1GHz CPU and a 40GB hard disk.
