RealViz has announced version 2 of its StoryViz 3D previsualization software. The tool enables creatives with and without 3D skills to build 3D scenes with actors and props to map out a set before construction and filming. It's aimed at a wide range of users from directors and visual effects supervisors to animators and graphic designers, according to RealViz

The upgrade adds a host of 3D, sound and export features. Support for animated textures has been added – the first StoryViz release supported only still images as textures. Objects can move in 3D trajectories, which can be edited, and a 3D measurement tool has been added.

Images and video can be output from StoryViz 2 with cameras and lights shown, to assist set-building and scene set-up. GBX and OBJ files can be dragged-&-dropped into scenes, and objects in FBX format – Alias's open file format – can be imported.

Sound levels can be edited, and exported with video clips. A fade effect has also been added.

StoryViz 2 will ship in the Autumn for €990 (around £680) plus VAT. Upgrade pricing has not yet been announced, though anyone buying StoryViz 1 from now will get a free upgrade.
